Hi,
is there a way to draw a quick reference scale on a plot??

i use the line tool. Make sure you draw a graphic line and don't use the position tool. Draw a line, with it selected go to the ruler tab on the info panel, correct it's direction (in case you drew it on an angle), set it's length to whatever you want - 1 metre or feet and inches if your culture has not yet embraced the metric system. You can then select it and duplicate it at the relevant distance. I usually create a short vertical at the start of the line and duplicate that at the relevant distance and then add text to this. Finally select the whole lot and group it so that you can move it around as a single object. You can vary the line thickness, colour etc in the stroke and fill tab on the info panel.
